When Charles Rose Architects were designing this apartment in New York, they were asked by their clients to create a space to display a large wooden tile mosaic.
The tile mosaic was a much loved piece of art, that was originally displayed at a restaurant the clients frequented. When they learned the restaurant was due to be demolished, they bought the art piece and gave it a new home in their apartment.
It took a crew people to dismantle it piece by piece, carefully numbering and wrapping each tile in conservation paper, before having it re-installed in the apartment, where it now appears next to the dining table.
