When TOWOdesign were designing a small 430 square foot (40sqm) apartment in Shanghai, China, they didn’t have a lot of room to work with.
To make best use of the space, they decided to raise the sleeping area and place it inside a wood box with curved edges.

As the apartment is small, the designers chose to include storage wherever possible, like within the stairs that lead up to the sleeping area.

By having the bed raised, it allowed the wood box to have storage built within it, in the form of two separate pull-out cabinets.

In the wooden box, the bed sits neatly in the middle, while above the bed is a cut-out section with hidden lighting. Plenty of shelving features on two of the walls, while behind the bed, there’s extra lighting, and the top of the stairs act as bedside tables.

On the other side of the bed there’s another set of stairs that lead to a small door. These stairs also have hidden storage in the form of drawers.
