SkB Architects have updated an early 1990s house in Medina, Washington, for their clients who wanted a gallery-like interior to highlight the owner’s art collection.

Stepping inside and to the right of the front door is the dining room. A simple white table ties in with the walls and a large window provides a view of the garden.

Just off the dining room is the kitchen, that was opened up to more directly connect it to the adjacent living spaces and a floating island was added. Off the kitchen is a small patio area for casual outdoor dining.

The interior of the home is bright and airy with white walls and contrasting dark wood floors. To the right of the living room is a sitting area with doors that open to the backyard.

Outside, there’s a patio with chairs and a freestanding fireplace, before stairs lead down to the backyard.

In the backyard there’s a swimming pool and at one end, two sculptural chairs sit underneath a small pergola. Gravel surrounds the pool and a dark wood fence provides privacy.

Back inside and raised up from the sitting area is the living room. A double-sided fireplace can be enjoyed from the couch or from the library.

Also located on the main floor of the house is a bedroom. Large windows allow natural light to fill the room and at the same time provide a view of the backyard.

In the powder room, an entire wall is filled with a mirror to make the small space feel larger.

A staircase leads up to the second floor of the home, while skylights and windows continue the bright and airy feeling upstairs.

In addition to the backyard and the patio off the kitchen, there’s another outdoor space with curvaceous red chairs on a small wood balcony.
