Architectural practice mecanismo, has remodeled an apartment in San Sebastian, Spain, that’s designed around a custom-designed wood wall that splits the public and private areas of the home, and includes built-in shelving.
One of the key details of the wood wall is the inclusion of five shelving niches that are partially embedded into the wall.
The metal niches, which are finished in a deep green, have a rounded shape, creating a softer element for the wood wall.
The wood wall also hides a doorway that connects to the private areas of the home, while the kitchen can be closed off from the living room with a sliding white wall.
The wood wall continues through to the kitchen, where it’s been paired with minimalist white cabinets.
On the private side of the wall, there are built-in closets in addition to more dark green shelving.
Here’s a closer look at the built-in shelving and the overall floor plan of the apartment.
