Brazilian architecture firm SUBdV have designed and created a custom office reception area for Monashees+ Venture Capital, that features a lounge setting that appears futuristic and aero-dynamic.

After receiving the design brief from feng-shui design consultant Marisa Volonterio, who envisioned a calming fluid lounge setting whose design and fabrication would exemplify the cutting edge technology of the start-up app firms it sponsors, SUBdV set out to design a reception desk and two seating areas.

On the left, the lounge appears to flow into the reception desk, while on the right, the standalone lounge seat continues with the same design aesthetic. To make the pieces even more dynamic, lighting has been hidden under the pieces, and can be lit to make the furniture designs appear as they are floating.

Here are a few ‘making of’ photos that show how the pieces started out as carved foam, which was then covered in fibreglass and sanded. Once sanded, a finish was applied to create a smooth, glossy appearance.

The same process was also used for the reception desk.
