Intervention Architecture has designed the interior of a small apartment in London that includes an important piece of multi-functional furniture.
The apartment, designed for a dancer, uses a changeable joinery solution to create multiple different uses. The blue upholstered felt cushions from the bench seating can be removed, and a bed folds down from the wall unit.
When the bed is folded down, a couple of shelves that run the width of the bed are positioned above the headboard, while storage cabinets create a frame and small open shelves act as bedside tables.
When the bed is not in use, it can be folded back into place, and a tabletop with foldable legs, which normally hangs on the wall, can be removed and installed to create a dining table.
Facing the living area, the bench / library shelf can be moved to create an open area when needed.
