A bat house is a great way to attract bats to live in your area, so you can enjoy the benefits they provide by eating mosquitoes and other undesirable insects.
Mike Montgomery of Modern Builds, has made a video (see below) and detailed plans explaining how to build a DIY bat house from simple materials such as cedar, wire mesh, silicone caulking, screws, a staple gun, and wood finishing lacquer.
Mike first shows how to cut the wood and other materials like the mesh, to the various sizes that you’ll need.
The mesh is then attached to the interior sides of the boards, providing a surface for the bats to hang on.
Once the mesh has been applied, Mike starts to put the pieces together using the glue, screws, and staple gun.
Mike then trims the excess wood pieces, adds the silicone caulking to create a seal, and then sands the edges. Once sanded, Mike then applies a protective exterior grade wood finish.
