Fireplaces are often the focal point of a room, and many people use tile, stone, or a large mantle to define the space, but those materials don’t always fit into people’s budgets.

In this example, from a home in Valencia, Spain, designed by NONNA designprojects, they defined the space around fireplace with a low cost solution. The designers simply used lengths of wood, that are evenly spaced, to create a fireplace surround that breaks up the otherwise white wall, and clearly defines the space.
