ARTA Architects has designed the Tai Kwun Chairs for The Hong Kong Jockey Club, allowing a more comfortable and modular seating solution for these stairs.
The chairs complement the distinctive design languages of the Tai Kwun arts and cultural centre’s ancient and contemporary architecture.
Each chair’s elegant curving form is ergonomically designed for comfort and is inspired by the floating boxes of new architecture and the roofscapes of historical buildings.
The use of different-coloured sustainable wood creates a gradient pattern that perfectly balances the need for an iconic design while coexisting in harmony with its surroundings.
A bespoke locking system ensures that each chair can be easily installed and removed to ensure ultimate flexibility in seating arrangements to suit large-scale performances, small group gatherings, and for passers-by looking for a moment of solitude.
Each chair is designed to be easily stackable to become an impromptu art work, as well as to ensure that they can be stored in a space-saving and efficient manner.
