Upstairs Studio Architecture has shared photos of a 900 sqft addition in South Miami, Florida, for owners who were looking for a little extra room in their traditional home, that was open to the outdoors, and allowed for a private primary bedroom and studio apart from the main residence.
The existing house was a traditional single-story home, painted white. The design idea was to provide contrast to the existing home by making the addition a modern metal black house. The front porch, originally with traditional columns was replaced with oxidized steel columns to match the addition.
A connecting hallway with glass walls connects the original house with the new extension.
The new home office/studio connects with the front yard with a pair of sliding doors that open the corner of the space.
There are exposed wood beams, concrete floors, and built-in shelves inside.
The new primary bedroom is located at the rear of the extension, with similar doors opening the space to a covered patio and the yard.
The patio is home to a hammock and a built-in wood bench.
The bedroom has the same appearance as the office/studio, however, the pendant lights have been hung from the wood beams.
