After doing much research on this subject, we’ve found there’s no industry standard height for a shower niche, it all depends on personal preference.
Realistically, most people will want a shower niche to be between 36 to 60 inches (91 to 152cm) from the floor, which makes it a comfortable height to reach for a bottle of shampoo or a bar of soap.
However, there are some things to keep in mind:
- If you have a bathtub/shower combination, you might want to consider how high you want to reach if you’re sitting in the bath. Alternatively, how low do you want to bend down if you’re standing?
- If you only have a shower (no bathtub), make sure that it’s comfortable for you to easily reach for your bathroom products, but don’t forget that if you have children or elderly people in the home, they may prefer something a little lower.
One way to solve the problem is to install two separate shower niches at different heights or have one tall vertical shower niche that has shelves included in its design.
Below are some shower niche design ideas to inspire you, which also show a variety of heights from high to low.
