ONE SEED Architecture + Interiors have recently completed the transformation of a 1957 bungalow in Vancouver, Canada, that was the homeowner’s boyhood home and is now where he and his wife are raising their two sons.
With the help of the build team at Vertical Grain Projects, ONE SEED implemented new and higher roofs to create a drastic visual transformation while reusing almost the entirety of the remaining house shell. The large projecting folds create depth and visual separation on what were largely flat elevations.

Inside, the entryway is lined in wood with a built-in bench beside the front door.

Just off the entryway, is the living room. A dark wood slat wall provides a backdrop for the comfortable grey couch. Large windows on either side of the living room provide views of the front and back yards.

An opening between the living room and the dining room shows off a wood beam, and custom built-in shelving.

In the dining room, a square white dining table sits below a black chandelier, while an eight foot high scenic door folds away to open the interior to the backyard.

Here’s a glimpse of what the rear of the house used to look like, compared with how it looks now. Off the dining room is an at-grade patio with built-in bench seating and lighting, that acts as a continuation of the indoor living space. The landscaped yard has different levels, with a basketball court on the lower level.

Back inside, the kitchen is bright and airy due to the use of minimalist white cabinetry, lighting and the natural lighting from the windows.

Also on the main floor of the house and looking out onto the street, is the master bedroom suite, where a wood accent wall surrounds the television.

An opening with closets beside the accent wall leads to the master bathroom. Much like the kitchen, the bathroom has been kept bright with the use of light-colored large format tiles and white cabinetry.

Steel and wood stairs by the front door lead to the upper and lower levels of the home.

On the lower level of the house is a basement that’s been set up a casual living room with a fireplace and an space for playing music.
