Soraia Gomes Teixeira, a Portuguese designer from Oporto, has collaborated with Burel Mountain Originals to create the Xia Stool, that features an accordion-like detail below the seat.
The designer wanted to revitalize a common object, like a stool, through the power of sound, and she chose a sound has a close association with musical instruments as diverse as the concertina or the plastic hammers used in São João’s traditional festivities in Oporto.
Soraia Gomes mentions, “Xia Stool is a fun object that makes people smile and unleashes their imagination. The note A comes always different in each “xia” so you’ll never sit down bored again.”
The stool is made from wood, Burel and 100% Pure Sheep Wool, and you can hear how the stool sounds – here.
