Harley Graham Architects have designed ‘Light Wave’, a backyard landscape, pool, and cabana project, that has views of Byron Bay in Australia.

The architects wanted to create a sculptural cabana design, as it sits beside a prominent public walkway called ‘The Lighthouse Walk’.
The architects mention, “People stream past it everyday as they head towards the lighthouse. Most people love it and there is a wide array of nicknames for it throughout the town.”

Located on a very steep site, which is also a dune, the foundation piers were created 6m deep in two directions to hold up the pool.
The cabana, designed in the shape of a cresting wave, is clad in Blackbutt, adding a sense of warmth and sensuality to the folded form.

Below the cabana is a bathroom with a shower. A large holding tank set underground is fed by rainwater off the house roof, and no town water is connected to the pool or its pumps.
