Francis Dominguez of EFE Creative Lab, a boutique architectural + interior design firm based in Miami, Florida, has transformed a spare empty bedroom into a home library
Here’s a glimpse of what the spare bedroom used to look like. It was typically used as a place for storing shoes, a bike, and unused furniture. The room also had no lighting, only natural light from the window.

As the client had many books that he wanted to display and enjoy, Francis designed a custom bookshelf that would house 100+ books in an industrial modern style, complementing the exposed concrete floors and ceiling that the loft offers.

Francis, with the help of a local carpenter (Grove and Anchor), created the wood and steel pipe shelving unit, that was designed with a gap for displaying artwork.

A metal pipe ladder on a track was installed on the shelving unit to easily allow the client to reach the books located on the upper shelves.

Francis also decided to paint only 3/4 of the walls height in a soft blue-green color, which accentuated the tall ceilings of the loft, while a bright red rug was placed on the concrete floor to add a touch of warmth, and to designate a reading area.

To combat the lack of artificial lighting in the room, a simple black chandelier was also added in the space.
